I’ve worked with IVN (The Institute for Nature Education and Sustainability) on their Tiny Forest initiative, creating infographics and spot illustrations to help bring this incredible project to life. A Tiny Forest is a fast-growing, tennis-court-sized native woodland designed to bring the benefits of a forest into urban spaces. These small forests provide habitats for insects, birds, and small mammals while also creating a peaceful space for people to connect with nature.
The concept of Tiny Forest is a fast-growing native woodland that is around the size of a tennis court. It is not only an attractive location for insects, birds and small mammals; it's also a nice place for people as well.

The illustrations and infographics I created for Tiny Forest are being used in brochures, leaflets, on websites, for educational material and information boards in The Netherlands and other countries.
“Sterre’s quick adaptability, flexibility, and creative input have resulted in beautiful illustrations. Thinking along and providing advice during the design process demonstrate her expertise and professionalism."
Stefan Hoepermans - IVN

Over time, additional concepts have grown from the original idea, such as Tiny Food Forests and Tiny Sea Forests, each focusing on different aspects of sustainability and biodiversity. I’ve created illustrations for these expansions, as well as illustrations for educational purposes.
From big infographics to small spot illustrations for educational purposes and illustrations explaining concepts, the work I created for Tiny Forest is very varied, yet all in the same style and color palette, staying easily and instantly recognizable.

All illustrations are drawn by hand first, to be vectorized later, as becomes clear from these steps in the process of the illustration for Tuiny Forest ('Tuin' is the Dutch word for Garden. The concept of Tuiny Forest is to apply the same ideology and ideas as a Tiny Forest to the small space of your city garden.

The handdrawn illustrations explain the basics of a Tiny Forest, how to plant them, its benefits and educational purposes. When the concept tiny forest grew and came up with variations like tiny food forest and tiny sea forest, I enjoyed creating infographics and illustrations for them too.
Besides infographics for their Tiny Forest project, i created infographics for corporate companies, tons of spot illustrations for educational purposes for them, and made editorial illustrations for their bimonthly magazine for years.
